Carbon Salons at Kol HaNeshamah

Carbon Salons at Kol Haneshamah

Responding to Climate Change One Home at a Time

Kol HaNeshamah’s Tikkun Olam Committee is committed to creating a more environmentally sustainable world.  Our newest green initiative focuses on climate change and reducing carbon emissions.

At our first annual Sustainability Shabbat on May 16, 2008, we introduced the idea of carbon salons, an idea inspired by the work of Kavana.  As part of the carbon salon effort, families will monitor their carbon, using a carbon calculator.  Several families who live near one another will then form salons, meeting a few times a year to talk about their carbon consumption, and what each family is doing to reduce their carbon footprint.  Families will share ideas on how to reduce carbon emissions, whether this is through less frequent driving, or changing practices at home.  It is our goal that through this process each family will be able to reduce their carbon by 2% every year that they participate in this effort.

Even before you join a carbon salon, you can begin reducing your carbon footprint.  Take a few fun quizzes on the Sierra Club website to find out how green your computer, bike, laundry, and getaways are, by clicking here.
